To or For

It can happen to you.
Or it can happen for you.
One is likely to be true the other is highly unlikely to be true unless you believe that type of thing.
When I was younger I was involved in a near-fatal RTA while out running. I went traveling to figure out what to do next since every day thereafter was a bonus. It happened to me.
Some twenty years later, I experienced another instant life-changing experience. Only this time, it happened to me and for me.
The difference?
The one, well that was on someone else, it happened to me. The other became an invitation to grow, and take on skills that were missing, so as not to go back.
I wouldn’t wish what happened to me on anyone. Except maybe those who want to grow.
